Some of the 1,248 drawings made by the 26 students in Lynda Barry’s “What It Is” class during the 4th week of February, 2012- University of Wisconsin-Madison
Assignment: fold an 8.5x11 inch piece of paper so it makes 16 panels. Draw in the style of Ivan Brunetti. Try to ride that pony. Use non-photo blue pencil to draw cartoon characters or super heroes from memory. Have them doing four things—- four panels for each thing they’re doing. Ink in the panels with a Flair pen. Now do the same thing except all the pictures have to be of your mom doing something.
Based on an exercise from Ivan Brunetti’s book, “Cartooning: Philosophy and Practice”
